Carne Composite pulses of the type ðspÞxð2spÞ xð3spÞx allow one to excite the central transition of nuclei with half-integer spin with enhanced efficiency compared to a simple ðs p Þx pulse. The method has been tested on solid samples containing sodium-23 (I = 3/2), aluminium-27 (I = 5/2) and scandium-45 (I = 7/2) under both static and magic-angle spinning conditions. Numerical simulations for I = 3/2 indicate that the enhancement is due to a more efficient conversion of Zeeman population differences associated with the satellite transitions to the central transition. 2012 Elsevier B.V. High-resolution multiple quantum MAS NMR spectroscopy of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei

We demonstrate the utility of a two-pulse sequence in obtaining high-resolution solid state NMR spectra of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei with magic-angle-spinning (MAS). The experiment, which utilizes multiple/single-quantum correlation, was first described in a different form by Frydman and Harwood [J. Am. Chem. Soc. 117 (1995) 5367] and yields high-resolution isotropic NMR spectra where shi...

Solid state separated-local-field NMR spectroscopy on half-integer quadrupolar nuclei: principles and applications to borane analysis.

New multidimensional NMR methods correlating the quadrupolar and heteronuclear dipolar interactions affecting a half-integer quadrupolar spin in the solid state are introduced and exemplified. The methods extend separated-local-field magic-angle spinning (SLF MAS) NMR techniques that have been used successfully in spin-(1)/(2) spectroscopy to the study of S >/= (3)/(2) nuclei. In our implementa...

QCPMG-MAS NMR of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei.

By combination of fast magic-angle spinning (MAS) and detection of the free-induction decay during a rotor-synchronized quadrupolar Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (QCPMG) train of refocusing pulses, the sensitivity of quadrupolar-echo MAS NMR spectra for the central transition of half-integer quadrupolar nuclei exhibiting large quadrupolar couplings may be significantly enhanced. Enhancements by an ...

Isotropic Spectra of Half-Integer Quadrupolar Spins from Bidimensional Magic-Angle Spinning NMR

Interest in the solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of half-integer quadrupolar spins is strongly stimulated by the roles that these isotopes play in a variety of important systems such as minerals, structural ceramics, semiconductors, glasses, and catalysts.' In spite of the partly ionic nature of these materials, quadrupole interactions with surrounding electric field gr...

Signal Enhancement of the Central-Transition Signal in Solid-State NMR of Quadrupolar Nuclei with Spin I =5/2 Using Fast Amplitude-Modulated (FAM) Pulse Trains: A Computational Study

In solid-state NMR of quadrupolar nuclei with half-integer spin I, a variety of fast amplitude-modulated (FAM) pulse trains have been used to enhance the intensity of the central-transition signal, by transferring spin population from the satellite transitions. Here, we describe the results of extensive numerical calculations using the Simpson program package to evaluate and compare the signal ...
